Before & After

Your Chemical Peel

A chemical peel is designed to remove the outer skin layers of your skin, correcting fine wrinkles, blemishes, uneven skin texture, and other superficial problems in the process. By removing the outermost layers of your skin, a chemical peel takes dirt, debris, and dead skin cells right along with it...leaving the healthy, clear skin just beneath. Dr. Rosen can choose a formula to meet your needs, customizing your chemical peel based on the issues you find yourself dealing with—we can pick a light or a deep chemical peel and also offer the Vitalize peel. Read on to learn more, and reach out to set up your consultation today!

A Light Chemical Peel

For a light peel, chemicals such as beta-hydroxy acid, alpha hydroxy acid, glycolic acid, and others may be utilized. The light peel is an excellent choice for those who want improved skin texture and complexion with no downtime. To correct pigment problems, the light peel can be mixed with a skin bleaching agent. It may also be used as a pre-treatment for the deep chemical peel.

  • Rough skin
  • Dry skin
  • Acne
  • Blemishes
  • More

Your Light Chemical Peel Procedure

The light chemical peel can be done in about 15 minutes. Your skin is cleansed and the solution is applied. To provide an even result, the solution can also be used on your face, neck, and chest. Best results are achieved with multiple treatment sessions and a medical-grade home skin care regimen, which we can help you decide on during your consultation.

What to Expect After Your Light Chemical Peel

As your fresh skin emerges, it’s normal to experience some flaking and dryness. No ointment will be required, and your normal routine can be resumed right away, but you’ll need to use sun protection as your skin will be more sensitive during this time. Possible side effects include flaking, scaling dryness, and redness.

Your Deep Chemical Peel

A deep chemical peel can treat moderate to severe sun damage, scars, or coarse wrinkles, using a special chemical solution that will be applied to the face, removing the outermost layers of damaged skin. The strongest of these chemical peels are made with phenol, a powerful but well-tolerated substance. For a peel with moderate depth, TCA (trichloroacetic acid) may be recommended.

Deep Chemical Peels Can Treat These Problems

  • Prominent facial wrinkles, scars, or lines
  • Blotchy skin, sun damage, freckles
  • Some precancerous growths
  • Blemishes and pigment problems

Your Deep Chemical Peel Procedure

You will need to meet with Dr. Rosen to determine if a chemical peel is the right treatment. Due to the risk of pigment changes, a deep peel may not be recommended for you if you have darker skin.

Dr. Rosen will talk you through everything you need to know about your procedure and provide you with detailed aftercare instructions. A deep chemical peel can take 20 minutes to an hour.

First, the face is cleansed thoroughly. Then your surgeon or aesthetician applies the solution evenly. You may feel a slight stinging sensation as the solution is applied, but you will adjust to it quickly.

What to Expect After Your Deep Chemical Peel

After your deep chemical peel, you will probably need to arrange for assistance during the initial recovery period. Your activities will be limited, and it’s best to relax for a few days as the skin heals. There will be some swelling, and a crust will form over the treated area, with new skin emerging in about a week, as your face fades from a red to pinkish color. Sun protection will be very important during this time. When healing is complete, expect a noticeable improvement in the surface of your skin: you’ll have fewer wrinkles and blemishes, and a more even skin tone.

Possible Side Effects of a Deep Chemical Peel

With a deep peel like phenol, your skin may lose its ability to make pigment. There may be uneven pigment changes and freckles may be permanently removed.

Alternatives to the Deep Chemical Peel

To treat acne scars and uneven skin texture, dermabrasion may be recommended as an alternative to the deep chemical peel.
