What Exactly Is a Chin Implant?

During chin surgery, the placement of a chin implant can require just 30 minutes to an hour. Dr. Rosen selects the proper size and shape implant to enhance your facial proportions and inserts it into a pocket over the front of the jawbone.

A small incision to create the pocket and insert the implant is placed inside the mouth (along the lower lip) or in the skin just under the chin area.

Your chin will be taped after surgery to minimize swelling and discomfort. Sutures in the skin will be removed in about a week. If the incision is placed within the mouth, the sutures will dissolve on their own.

What to Expect During Recovery from Chin Surgery

You’ll experience some discomfort and swelling in the chin and lower face for several days, which is completely normal, along with some temporary difficulty speaking immediately after your procedure. Bruising may also be visible around your chin and neck, and Dr. Rosen will give you special instructions about dental hygiene, eating, and when it’s safe to resume normal activities.
