The Procedure: How Breast Augmentation Surgery Works
Operating time is usually about one to two hours, with the procedure being performed under general anesthesia, so you will be asleep during surgery. Incisions are made to allow Dr. Rosen access to the breast tissue, where a pocket is created for the implant.
The implant is placed above or below the muscle, centered below the nipple. In some cases, an endoscopic technique may be appropriate, which uses a small viewing instrument to see your underlying tissues, allowing for much smaller incisions. When breast implants are placed through the underarm or the navel, the endoscopic technique is necessary. After breast implant placement, the incisions are closed with sutures, adhesive, and surgical tape.
